December 6, 2009:
1988 Swell Greats #81 John McNally
Nice card for a Sunday. The subject of this badly centered beauty is better known as Johnny "Blood" McNally, probably one of the best nicknames in the game at the time the forward pass was still in its infancy. Blood got his nickname from the Rudolph Valentino film Blood and Sand. Over the course of his pro career he played with the Milwaukee Badgers, Duluth Eskimos, Pottsville Maroons, Green Bay Packers, and Pittsburgh Pirates. Oh what fun Nike would have had creating a multitude of uniform combinations for the Duluth Eskimos that would have rivaled those of the Oregon Ducks of recent years.
McNally's is one of the 21 names of Pro Football Hal of Famers that adorn the inner ring of Lambeau Field. His is sandwiched between those of E.L. "Curly" Lambeau and Arnie Herber. Enjoy today's football games, everybody.
