Signature Revealed

2008 Topps Chrome #229 Clay Buchholz

Reader Motherscratcher deserves a pat on the back for some excellent detective work. He's the Tom Hanks of autograph decryption. Part of me wonders if he was a kindergarten teacher in a past life.

Whose Signature is This?

Anybody have a take on this one?

And no, the answer is not Z-Boy, although that needs to be this guy's new nickname.
This card just came in the mail today as a Topps redemption. The turnaround on this card was a mere 22 days, which is entirely acceptable. I'm assuming this player learned how to read and write at some point in the past, so his signature is not.

CC: A Completely Unique Individual

This card represents my first successful purchase from the Topps Vault. They're pretty smart, those guys, selling off a bunch of interesting stuff both old and new, much of it one-of-a-kind.
The packaging and presentation is more than adequate. My CC card arrived in a mail-safe box within a couple of days of ordering.
2009 Topps Vault First Edition Blank Back (1/1)

The card itself is in a hard plastic case that cannot be opened using traditional means. Affixed to the top is a Topps Vault sticker. Unlike some other Topps cards that come packaged (like the '05 Retired Signature cards), this is not meant to be an unbreakable seal that cannot be compromised. The sticker has peeled part of itself off already and looks like it will need to be re-stuck at regular intervals.

The back is blank, of course, and hand-numbered.

And Topps also threw in an invitation to celebrate the wedded bliss of Mike Jasperson's eldest daughter. I will display this on my wall right next to the certificate that proclaims me to be the owner of a "Quality Seyko Timepiece."

All kidding aside, I am very happy to have this card. I fully realize that this is an impossible quest I am on, but this 1/1 card should get me as close as possible to my goal of owning all CC Sabathia cards on which he is a Brewer.

CC: You are Not Worthy of Sharing a Card With Him

The newest addition to the collection:
2009 Upper Deck Rivals #R6 (w/some guy on some other team)

This card has been censored to protect the children.

In other news, I guess all that Topps black stealth parallel news means yet another CC card to chase after this year. I feel one of dayf's FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU-'s coming on.

A 1982 Topps Melodrama

Spring Training, somewhere in Arizona, 1981:

Hey Billy...

What, man?

Last night I had a date with Sally Owchinko. Things went well. I was givin' it to her, like this. Ooooooooooooh.

Man, don't bother me with that sheeyit.

What are you two guys talking about?

Sally Owchinko.

Yeah. I was givin' it to her, like this. Ooooooooooooh.

I hear it, but I don't believe it.

Yeah, it really happened. I was givin' it to her, like this. Ooooooooooooh.

What's going on ever there, Bob? They look like they're talking about something of interest.

I don't like the looks of it. You know how Jon gets.

Let's go over there anyway, check it out.

So I was givin' it to her, like this. Ooooooooooooh.

Told you.

So let me get this straight. You said you were giving it to her. How, exactly, did that play out?

Let me show you. I was givin' it to her, like this. Ooooooooooooh.

Oooh.

No. I was givin' it to her, like this. Ooooooooooooh.

Oooooh?

No, Ooooooooooooh.

Ooooooooooooh.

You got it, m' man.

I think know the girl yall's talkin' about.

Did you give it to her, like this? Ooooooooooooh.

You betcha. Yup, that's her alright.

Please describe her hair to me. In detail.

I was givin' it to her, like this. Ooooooooooooh.

Pretty nice out here today, fellas. Ought to be a good game today, between two quality teams. Best of luck.

By the way, what are you all talking about?

Sally Owchinko. I was givin' it to her, like this. Ooooooooooooh.

That's a lie mister.

Ooooooooooooh.

A damn lie.

I was givin' it to her, like this. Ooooooooooooh.

This ain't over.

Golly. I feel all sorts of tingly inside.

eBay, the Viable Alternate to Selling Drugs

I just put up a bunch of stuff on eBay.

Check it out. Maybe you'll see something you want.

Please don't ask about how I acquired the Pearl Harbor Blu-ray. (Actually, it came bundled with the PS3 I bought this summer.)

CC: Yukon Cornelius Edition

The world of sports has had a love-hate relationship with the color gold. In the most positive light, gold is the color of victory, associated with trophies, medals, and rings.
At the other end of the spectrum, gold takes a seedier form. In the realm of pseudo-sport, gold was the color of the WWF's indescribable Goldust...

...as well as perennial Sunday-morning Superstars of Wrestling tag team fodder, The Conquistadors.

And who can forget the disaster that was Marquette's attempt to alienate anyone who was ever associated with the university by switching the team nickname to the Marquette Gold?
The lastest batch of CC cards I've acquired, however, doesn't look anything like your two out-of-shape uncles cramming various body parts into a gold hooded unitard.

No gold on that last one, but there is a cool jersey number-shaped swatch.

Guest Blogger: Aqua Teen Hunger Force's Carl

Guest bloggers have been few and far between at Thorzul Will Rule, but today you are all in for a real treat. My good friend Carl, next-door neighbor of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force, took the time to stop by and open a pack of cards he picked up at Target. (He may say "Wal-Mart" in the video, but he's just a little confused and has trouble telling the difference between most retail outlets.

Enjoy!

So...best retail pack break video of all time? (Because any douchebag can turn on a camera and open a pack of cards.)
