Top Five Pulls of 2010: #4

One of the best things that Topps still does right is the publication of the odds of pulling each insert card. Sometimes, the odds are so staggering you can't wrap your head around them. Beating insurmountable odds is a part of what makes my fourth-best pull of 2010 special.

Card: 2008 Topps 2007 Highlights #HA-VG Valdimir Guerrero AUTO

From: Series 1 Jumbo Box

Why I Love This Card: All throughout 2010, different sites were selling boxes of 2008 Topps flagship at dirt cheap prices. Since I didn't collect the base set that year (too focused on Heritage), I picked up a jumbo box of each series early in 2010. In Series 1 boxes, Vladimir Guerrero is a part of the 2007 Highlights Autographs Group A along with Albert Pujols, Alfonso Soriano, Johnny Damon, and Manny Ramirez. Group A was by the the most difficult pull in this product, with printed odds of 1:32,000. That's right, three zeroes.

This is my first Guerrero autographed card, a far cry from the junk autos that we're used to pulling from low-end products. Waiting for two years certainly paid off. Looking ahead a bit, I don't think it's a fluke that none of this year's top pulls will be from a 2010 product.
