The 100 Best Finds in a 30-Dollar Lot: #44

2006 Upper Deck #316 Randy Johnson Gold Parallel (229/299)

Dumbest serial-numbered parallel of all time? You make the call.

If it's not #1, then it's pretty darn close.

"I've got it! Let's change the Upper Deck logo, team logo, and player name from silver foil to gold foil! And let's make 299 of each card."

"Should we maybe make it better, like add a colored border, something like that?"

"Absolutely not!"

From now on, these parallels are officially known as "Upper Deck Barely Gold."

Foil color changes are such a lazy way to make a parallel. And parallels are just lazy ways to make inserts.

I wonder what was the last topps set to have not have any parallels? It has to be an early 90's set. 1990 Topps perhaps, as I know 91 has the Gulf Storm set.

It depends on what you call parallel. Topps Gold started in 1992, but Topps Tiffany was issued from 1984-1991. And then you have O-Pee-Chee, which was a "partial" parallel of Topps since 1965.
