The 100 Best Finds in a 30-Dollar Lot: #63

1958 Topps #447 Ray Monzant

While it's nice to pull a card out of a random lot that's more than 50 years old and nice some relatively intact corners, the star of this show is clearly the cartoon on the back.

I love it that the representation of "contending clubs" is the Milwaukee Braves, winners of the previous World Series. I'm getting a Scrappy-Doo vibe from cartoon Ray, a little pipsqueak ready to take on anyone, provided they are at least twice his size. The Brave Behemoth is so taken aback that he's about to cry. The Milwaukee slugger is also wearing some of those ridiculously long curly-toed boots that are the latest rage to sweep across Mexico and the southwest United Stated. No, really, they are.

Hey, if Hank Aaron asked you to wear these, you'd wear them.
