THORZUL'S NEW BLOG

A couple of weeks ago I started a new card blog called "I POST PICTURES OF BASEBALL CARDS, YOU LOOK AT THEM AND THEN GET THE FUCK OUT."

I'm mainly going to be using it as a repository for quick posts about single baseball cards that I run across in my collecting and sorting. The tone is a bit harsher than this blog. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it's the first purposely transgressive blog in existence.

I POST PICTURES will function as a sort of pressure-free outlet, a place where I can post without regard to any set schedule. There might be multiple posts in a single day, or I might go weeks without producing any content at all.

My Twitter followers got a sneak peak once it went live, so if you want an occasional heads-up, it's absurdly easy to find me on that forum.

Enjoy.

MONDO Break: Braves

Before we get to the cards, I 'd like to start by thanking everyone for their patience. The two breaks I hosted this summer took longer than usual, and I'm happy to finally reach the finish line. I think everyone's cards have been mailed except for the ones going to BS, Chris Mays, and Brad's Blog. Those will be sent out this week. Many of you have probably already gotten your cards.

TEAM: Atlanta Braves

Pretty cool lot, a little bit of everything, but maybe a bit of an overdose on the McCann.

Funny how they put the foreign players on the front and Americans on the back.

I dig the year serial number.

That card is so Donrussy, it's ridiculous.

MONDO Break: Giants

TEAM: San Francisco / New York Giants
BUYER: BS

As your tour guide to the Giants Baseball Card Museum, I will remind you to remain behind the velvet ropes, stay with the tour group, and refrain from flash photography. Follow me.

The first place we will visit is the Will Clark Wing, which houses pieces dating back to 1986.
Will Clark Jersey x3
This modern work evokes Warhol's Campell's Soup Cans, albeit on a slightly smaller scale.

Will Clark Jersey
Mid-period Clark, one of the commonest examples of his craft.

Will Clark Jersey (90/99)
Truly a legendary piece, one of the finest examples of his Blue Period.

Off we head to the Jeff Kent Wing, one of the least-visited areas of the museum. Don't mind the draft you feel, it's something our crew is working on.
Jeff Kent Jersey
It might interest you to know that Rabelais, in addition to literature, also produced several early specimens of relic cards.

Jeff Kent Bat (15/25)
Mr. Kent also dabbled in wood relief prints, this being one of his most scarce.

Jeff Kent Jersey
In many cases, the value of the frame can outweigh that of the print. This is one of those instances.

Traveling Collection

Bobby Thomson Jersey
Before settling in the Haight-Ashbury district, many of the makers of Giants ephemera emigrated from the east coast.

Matt Cain Jersey (121/199)
The word is thrown around ad nauseam, but Cain produced one of the few works that could truly be considered "perfect."

Tim Lincecum Jersey x2
As we head toward the exit, let's take one last glimpse at one of the medium's most hallowed members. After a brilliant beginning, this young man was caught in the throes of opium addiction and never regained his earlier form.

Thank you for being a great tour group, please stop in the gift shop before heading to your cars.

A Nip is in the Air

For the last few days I've detected the cool, crisp air of impending autumn during my morning breakfast. That may be the worst constructed sentence I've ever typed on this blog, but the sentiment is no less true. Fall is coming, and with it, a contest. I was reminded of this when I came across this illustration on a completely unrelated website.

How would Zombie George Brett even know that he shit his pants? That question may never be answered. The problem is, I had a great idea for the Nightmares on Cardboard theme this year, and now I've forgotten it. Perhaps this photo will jog my memory. No worries, I've got more than a month, and so do you. Sharpen those Cray-Pas and charcoal pencils and await my instructions.

MONDO Break: Yankees

The Yankees netted 17 relic cards in this break. Yeah, the rich do keep getting richer.

TEAM: New York Yankees
BUYER: BS

Don Larson Jersey (17/99)
This card is awesome. The sad thing is, this probably passes as a disappointing card in a pack/box of tribute.

Jose Canseco Bat x3
I don't know... this kind of just makes me laugh.

Joe Torre Jersey x2 (045/199, 151/199)
Hey, now you've got just over 1% of these cards. The jersey pieces look kind of aged, like these were from his playing days, not his managing days, even though he never played for the Yankees.

Mike Mussina Jersey

Paul O'Neil Jersey (03/15)
That's a fairly low number.

Mike Mussina Jersey (0718/1000)
That's a high number, but I like the design a lot. "Pristine Portions," HAHA! There was a friend of mine who liked to use the word portion as a euphemism for a man's package. So it's good to have a "healthy portion."

Paul O'Neill / Bernie Williams Dual Bat
I wonder if O'Neill ever caught a fly ball in his hat for that sick kid?

Robinson Cano Bat
Too bad we didn't get three of these, it would have made a true turkey. I like how the bat grains go in two different directions.

Bernie Williams Jersey
About as ho-hum as jersey cards get.

Ron Guidry Jersey (075/199)
Okay, what's the deal? Guidry's jersey looks way newer than Torre's.

Mike Mussina Jersey/Bat (05/50)
Palindrome-JO!

Bernie Williams Jersey (15/25)
That's a nice-looking card. I've got a soft spot for low-numbered gold parallels.

Bernie Williams Jersey
I think BS pointed out in the Phillies comments thread that these 206's are likely the first framed relics.

Nice haul!
