Completion!: New Year's Eve Edition

Well, I was able to knock one last set off my want list this year. This time around it's 1993 Fleer Football, a set from the sweet spot of Fleer's Golden Age. In the early-to-mid-1990s Fleer was churning out attractive, collectible sets with just the right amount of inserts. Now, I haven't chased after all of the inserts from this set, but I may at some point in the future. The Team Leaders insert is really great looking, so I'm sure I'll tackle that one in the future. Anyways, here's the last All-Pro card I needed.

1993 Fleer All-Pro #23 Steve Wisniewski

Steve's name routinely turns up on lists of dirtiest players. I heard Lisa Simpson used this information to her betting advantage.

Thank You to Duff

The other day, before I ventured outside of the state of Wisconsin and lived to tell about it, I received an unsolicited card in the mail from a guy going only by "Duff." It was a pretty nice one, too, an autographed Bowman Sterling card of Eric Arnett, a Brewers prospect who was with single-A Brevard County last season.

Thanks, Duff, and allow me to direct others to your San Diego Padres-themed blog, Bleedin' Brown and Gold.

Merry Lynch-mas Everyone!

The Lynch and I would like to wish everyone the most joyous of all possible Christmases. This is the time of year during which people tend to reflect, and the staff at this blog is no different. Everything in 2013 pretty much hit an equilibrium. The pluses tended to balance out the minuses, and a good time was had by all. I'd like to share with you Thorzul's Top and Bottom Moments of 2013. Here we are exploring the world of sports, blogging, and perhaps some real-world events.

*Birth of my first son. He shall inherit my many acres of land and will be responsible for maintaining the sizable harem.
*USMNT qualifies for 2014 World Cup. It was exhilarating to follow the exploits of this team, as much as it will be to watch them flame out and finish 30th or worse among all teams this summer.
*Everton F.C. near the top of the Premier League table. This couldn't possibly last, could it?
*Tailgating with Stale Gum and sruchris at Miller Park. Friendship.

*The injury to Aaron Rodgers' collarbone. Sure, it just had to happen to the sport's only major star not on PEDs or alpaca semen extract, judging from the average human recovery time he's currently experiencing.
*Those last two CC Sabathia cards eluding me. For Christ's sake, where is that gold proof from 2008 Stadium Club hiding?
*The Milwaukee Brewers' return to obscurity. The farm cupboard is bare, too, say the experts. I expect the team to contend again once my oldest graduates from college.
*The fallow summer for this blog. Three posts in July? Really, Thorzul? Really???

Well, that about does it. Merry Lynch-mas everyone!

1977 Topps #367 Dave Hamilton

If you're not looking as beleaguered as this guy come Christmas Eve, you're doing it wrong.

Merry Christmas, and tomorrow... a savior.

1993 Topps #529 Top Prospects - Shortstops

You call that guy a prospect? That guy sucks! He couldn't even hit his weight. He has the range of a dog tick. He gets lapped on the basepaths. Is that his throwing arm or is that a wet noodle? That guy totally sucks.

Trade Me Anything VII #9

The most recent TMA package came from Zpop, a guy who I believe has been involved in a lot of stuff on this blog. I even did some proxy shopping for him at a card show a couple of years ago. I'm excited to see what he sent.

2013 Topps Update 1971 Mini #TM-39 Giancarlo Stanton, Chasing History #CH-109 Jurickson Profar, #CH-106 Edwin Encarnacion, #CH-136 Zack Wheeler

A couple of Hot Wheels
These will make great stocking stuffers for tomorrow night.

2008 Upper Deck Superstars #57 Prince Fielder
I had no idea what this was, but found the information on BaseballCardPedia. Apparently UD made special Superstar parallels of 10 cards from the 2008 base set. Weird.

Three 2011 ToppsTown cards

2011 Topps Diamond Duos #DD-29 Matt Kemp / Jerry Sands

2011 Topps 60 #T60-102 Hank Aaron, #T60-17 Dale Murphy
I used to have the Murphy on my Most Wanted list, and then people sent me the card three separate times. And I thought blogging was dead. Go figure.

There were a couple other random Brewers that I already had, but everything else made this a spectacular trade. Thanks, Zpop!

1992 Pacific #97 Mike Utley

On a football Sunday like this one, it's hard to believe that it's been over 22 years since Mike Utley suffered the hit that paralyzed him from the chest down. What he's been able to accomplish in the years since the injury is remarkable, and he remains an inspiration to this day.

1995-96 Upper Deck #67 Shawn Bradley

If that dude had some pinky-finger-to-baby-toe webbing, he'd make one heckuva sugar glider.

With today's post, you learn something. The word for such an anatomical feature is patagium. The more you know...

1959 Topps Want List Posted

I just added 1959 Topps to my want lists. It reads more like a complete checklist right now, but maybe someone is in the mood to trade.

2013 Card-vent Calendar: December 20

December 20, 2013:
2003 Topps Total #564 Josh Fogg

Fogg. It's an old Jules Verne character surname, but I think it works even better as a Dickens villain. More appropriate for this time of year, anyway. Lazarus Fogg would be a kind of old miser who owns a string of for-profit elementary schools, which are really a front for an easy source of child labor that toils away in his ink mines. Either that, or a younger version of Fogg could be called the Artful Bunter.

1991 Monster in My Pocket Medusa

I never collected any of the miniature action figures on which these cards were based. For my money, M.U.S.C.L.E. was the superior franchise. (Says the guy with a Nokogira Man full-back tattoo.)

1998 Topps #3 Billy Wagner

It's one thing to moonlight as a combination baseball-player-and-fireman-themed exotic dancer during the offseason, but it's entirely something else to take your props with you to work. The Astros' clubhouse attendant got sick of washing the banana hammock well before the '97 season was over, I'm guessing.

2013 Card-vent Calendar: December 16

December 16, 2013:
2001 UD Decade 1970's #9 Bert Campaneris

Okay, I'll raise my hand and admit it: For the longest time (like up until yesterday) I thought that the Barenaked Ladies were making a Campaneris reference in that one song of theirs. It turns out they were intending nothing of the sort. They were singing about this guy. Guess that makes me "wrapped up like a douche." You win some, you lose some, but tonight we all win because of that yellow, yellow uniform.

Trade Me Anything VII #8

This one has been sitting in my dining room for over a week. Apologies to Marcus from Backstop Cards, who sent a package full of cool stuff.

2013 Topps Update Green Sparkle #US176 Matt Lindstrom, Gold #US74 Kyle Blanks (1835/2013)

A bunch of music promo stuff
The envelope was stuffed full of various stickers and promo CDs. I actually listened to the Henry Clay People CD while running errands in my car last week. I'm sorry to report, it was pretty horrible. Marcus, I hope you have no affiliation with this band whatsoever. The other discs, though, I'll be giving a chance in the near future.

A pack of 1992 Topps Stadium Club Series 3

2013 Topps Chipz Ryan Braun
Maybe my new lucky charm when I play poker, which is almost never now.

There was a big pile of Brewers cards, and I've decided to show just my five favorites if you put a gun to my head.
2013 Topps World Baseball Classic #WBC-15 Ryan Braun
Yep, I still collect the guy.

1989 Upper Deck #13 Gary Sheffield
You know, I may have never owned this card until now. Hate the guy, like the card.

2012 Topps Chrome #142 Yovani Gallardo
So I guess Braun made us all forget about this guy's DUI early on in 2013.

1983 Topps #190 Cecil Cooper
I had a coworker who would host a Brewers party each summer once the school year ended. There was usually a baseball trivia contest during the cookout, and she would sometimes just shout out Cecil Cooper. She did it just enough for it not to be annoying.

2013 Topps Update #US189 Kyle Lohse Gold Parallel (0351/2013)
This is a very familiar looking card.

There was also a Dale Murphy insert card from 2011 Topps that I forgot to scan, and there was also this 1 franc coin from 1949.

Awesome trade, Marcus, love the variety!
