The Spring Break Cards Are Here

The package showed up this afternoon, and I've started inspecting the contents. The original owner of this lot included a ton of mid-level star cards form the 1990s. Lots of Mo Vaughn, David Cone, Ray Lankford... lots of multiple copies of the same card (Bip-level numbers, in some cases). I'll get to work on sorting them through the holiday weekend.

My Spring Group Break Cards Have Been to Hell and Back

The cards are not here yet, but should be arriving soon. I was a little worried for a stretch there, and here's why.

USPS tracking indicated that the cards originated in Latrobe, PA, former home of Rolling Rock beer. From there, the package was shipped to Warrendale, PA, probably a local-to-regional branch situation. Sounds good so far.

From there, the journey takes its first strange turn. The cards' next destination is Capitol Heights, MD. Seems like the wrong direction to me, but maybe there's some sort of system whereby all Pennsylvania packages are funneled through Maryland.

Finally, the cards make one last crazy turn as they head to Greensboro, North-Freaking-Carolina. (WTF?) It was at this point where I began to think these cards were running from their problems instead of facing them head-on. Everything again became right with the world when I checked and noticed that the cards were sitting safely in Illinois. I'm guessing they'll be arriving early next week, with a very slight possibility that they'll show up tomorrow.

Pull the Trigger 3.13

More stuff.

1987 Topps Hardback Stickers #146 Kirby Puckett (x2) and 2000 MLB Showdown #361 Trevor Hoffman

The Puckett stickers are actually examples of the rarer rigid sticker backs, as opposed to the more flexible conventional ones. The Hoffman was kicked out of an all-Brewers box.

Pull the trigger for $100, and you get the cards above, plus:

2005 Donruss Play Ball #PG-40 Frank Thomas (25/65), 2008 Topps Co-Signers #16 Joe Mauer Hyper-Plaid Bronze Parallel (60/75)

Completion!: Dirtstache Edition

While we're still waiting for the group break cards to arrive (Tomorrow? Fingers crossed?), let's take a look at the set that was brought to completion today.

2009 Upper Deck A Piece of History #24 Jay Bruce

A Brewers fan in northern California contacted me about joining the Spring Group Break, but preferred paying cash. He greased the wheels a little bit by offering the Jay Bruce card seen above, which had been sitting for quite some time in the Thorzul's Most Wanted section.

There were a couple more Brewers thrown in for good measure, plus this pack-fresh specimen:
1986 Donruss #39 Jose Canseco Rated Rookie

Believe it or not, I've never owned one of these until today. It almost makes me want to get going on my '86 Donruss set. Almost. I really ought to finish off the '88 edition first.

Thanks for a great send, Erich! I hope some good Brewers come out of this lot.

Thorzul's Spring (Group) Break - Repack Box

Here's the Target repack box. Enjoy!

Errors & Omissions
Turns out I was right about Pascual being the deceased Perez, but it did not take place during summer: He died this past November.

The Michael Young purple chrome refractor is numbered to 499.

I don't remember the exact words used to describe '07 UD Future Stars, but the term I should have used is "shitty pile of shit."

The 1997 Score Desi Relaford is a Premium Stock parallel, which can be read about here.

A Thank You to the Spring Breakers

The response to the Spring (Group) Break has been pretty good so far. I'm hoping the contents of the big lot are going to be great, but you never know for sure. As an act of good faith, I picked up one of those repack boxes at Target tonight, which will officially be part of the break.

I'll be opening these on video some time tomorrow night, so if you want to get in on the break, you have until then to do so. Keep your fingers crossed for good cards.

Thorzul's Spring (Group) Break - $10

I've got a bead on a decent looking lot of a few thousand cards that look to make a good cheap group break. Looks like lots of possible late-1990s stuff that a lot of collectors don't have too much of.

Buy-in for this break will be $10.00 per team. Please claim as many as you would like in the comments.
Payment must be sent immediately to: bill13boehm@yahoo.com
Please include your screen name, team choice(s), and mailing address as a note with payment.
I'm at the tail end of sorting about 10,000 Brewers cards, so I'm going to stay out of this one. I'm also going to keep the junk wax out of your lots, so I will not be sending anything ultra-common from 1986-1993 except stars, parallels, and otherwise rarer and more valuable cards.

How about some more cards for the $100 pile? They're both numbered to less than 100, one shiny and one old-timey-ish.

2005 Donruss Play Ball #PG-40 Frank Thomas (25/65), 2008 Topps Co-Signers #16 Joe Mauer Hyper-Plaid Bronze Parallel (60/75)

Dead men might not wear hyper-plaid, but it's fine for catchers. You gotta love the retro Sox uni was well.

These two cards can be yours for $100.00. I have the feeling someone will pull the trigger on this one. Remember, you're also getting everything seen below.

Pull the Trigger 3.11

It's been a few days, and I'd really like to get this lot of cards out of the house. Today I'm adding an old guy who wrote his name.

2005 Topps Retired #TA-BEB Bob Brenly AUTO (Uncirculated)

I remember the 2001 World Series being fun as hell to watch. I was a student teacher then, living in a shitty dump of an apartment on the city's far west side. Later that winter I'd be at a dive bar when the infamous "tuck rule" took place, but before the snow fell that year, I'd take a break from lesson planning to tune in to see how those upstart Diamondbacks were faring.

Pull the trigger for $100.00 and the Brenly is yours, along with:
2008 Donruss Sports Legends Lot of 4 Numbered Cards

1995 Score Summit Lot of 24

Lot of 32 1980 Topps Cards

Lot of 21 1986, 1987, & 1988 Topps Minis
