May Group Break: Team #7 - Detroit Tigers

Team: Detroit Tigers
Buyer: bigbern28

Bunch of base cards, lots of rookies

One of those base cards cloned itself as a 2013 Topps Chrome Victor Martinez Refractor.

2012 Topps Golden Moments Al Kaline

2013 Topps WBC Miguel Cabrera

2014 Topps Opening Day Breaking Out Justin Verlander
These are cool, verging on Fleer Pro-Visions territory.

2014 Gypsy Queen Victor Martinez Black Mini (073/199)

No big hits for the Tigers, but there were a few more randoms to be found.

EXTRAS

1979 Topps George Sisler / Ty Cobb
Not the best condition, but a fun card nonetheless.

1976 Topps Bill Freehan
Again, the condition could be better. At one time this card probably had a piece of fabric-based tape sticking to it on the front and back.

1981 Topps Tigers Future Stars

1994 Upper Deck All-Time Heroes Darrell Evans 125th Anniversary Parallel

2003 Donruss Team Heroes Alan Trammell

2004 Fleer Greats Al Kaline

Some decent cards, nice variety, solid, but not spectacular. Enjoy the cards, bigbern.

May Group Break: Team #6 - Atlanta Braves

Yes, I know, another delay. I just happened to have a hankering for some Schell's Chimney Sweep and hung out in Minnesota all weekend to get some. In the process, I got to listen to Dan Gladden try to tie a bow on a Giants' sweep of the Twins. Onward and upward.

Team: Atlanta Braves
Buyer: Chris Mays

I'm happy that so many decent Braves cards emerged from this lot, since Chris ponies up for them in nearly every break I hold, even after some less-than-stellar results.

Some base cards

Some inserts. You guys can read, there's a half-dozen of these from recent years.

2014 Gypsy Queen John Smoltz Black Border Mini (095/199)
Damn attractive card.

2014 Gypsy Queen Tom Glavine Blue Frame (161/499)
No idea at all about this set, but the Braves look good in it.

2013 Topps Chrome Purple Parallel Brian McCann

2014 Topps Julio Teheran Game-Used Jersey
I like the design. It has a '90s Stadium Club vibe going on.

2014 Gypsy Queen Andrelton Simmons Framed Jersey

EXTRAS

1999 Topps Andres Galarraga et al

1978 Topps Strikeout Leaders
Niekro and Ryan led in the feathered hair stat line as well.

Good stuff all around. I hope these find a nice place in your collection, Chris.

May Group Break: Team #5 - St. Louis Cardinals

Sorry for the suspense and the delay. I had some lengthy time commitments every single day after work this week, and they left me too tired to do anything substantial on here. Let's see what we've got.

Team: St. Louis Cardinals
Buyer: madding

First, the base cards. There was a nice stack of 2013 Chrome in here, and this is the first look we're getting at it. That's five Wachas, for those counting. Fozzie Bear only gave us three.

Another base cardheeeeeeeeeyyyyyyy, that's not your grandma's Yadier Molina, that's a 2013 Topps Update Super Short Print.

2012 Allen & Ginter Mini Stan Musial and Adam Wainwright

2014 Gypsy Queen Jersey Cards Jhonny Peralta and Peter Bourjos (Mini)
Whoa. Those kind of came out of left field. Nice get.

2014 Heritage Shelby Miller Black

2014 Topps Shelby Miller The Future Is Now

2014 Topps Joe Kelly Yellow
Best Topps Parallel of the Year, perhaps of the decade.

2013 Topps Postseason Heroes Bob Gibson

2013 Topps Making Their Mark Matt Adams

Yes, there were even some extras. This particular team did rather well.

EXTRAS

2003 Donruss Team Heroes Bob Gibson

2003 Team Heroes Chuck Finley Statline Parallel (063/174)

1972 Topps Reggie Cleveland

2003 Bowman Heritage Mini Red Schoendienst

2009 Goodwin Champions Albert Pujols

That is all. Heavy starching may recommence.

May Group Break: Team #4 - New York Mets

On to the next team.

Team: New York Mets
Buyer: buckstorecards

A bunch of Mets rookie base cards. There was a big pile of Chrome rookies in this lot, but they're just popping up now.

2013 Topps Franchise Forerunners Matt Harvey / David Wright

2013 Topps Matt Harvey Making Their Mark x2

2014 Topps The Future is Now Zack Wheeler

2013 Topps Making Their Mark Zack Wheeler

2013 Topps Postseason Heroes David Wright x2

Okay, so apparently the franchise is pinning their hopes on three guys. Lots of inserts in this stack, but none of the fun parallels. Let's see what else came out of the fistfull of cards.

EXTRAS

2004 Topps Mike Piazza

2002 Fleer Box Score World Piece Roberto Alomar Bat
Cool card, bad pun.

2000 Topps Benny Agbayani
At one point, someone felt the need to place this in a top loader. Gotta keep it GEM MINT!

1980 Topps Craig Swan

My favorite thing about this lot was how it reminded me of something I had completely forgotten: The Mets were in the 2006 NLCS. I could not have told you that even if I had a gun to my head. Enjoy the cards, buckstorecards!

It Comes in Handy

In today's mail I found a small, hand-addressed envelope waiting for me to open it. There was but one card inside, but it was a good one. From Chicago's own P-town Tom, I received this:
2011 Topps 60 Years of Topps 60YOT-99 Larry Walker

This was a card I had placed on my "Most Wanted List" in the sidebar of this blog. Most of the stuff that can be found there is from the 2011 Topps set, the most recent one that I have collected with any real urgency, if you can call it that. I've selected many of the inserts from the set to try to complete, and I've even devoted a full binder to these cards. Most of the time if I acquire something from this list, I replenish the wanted list by looking through the binder and finding the first missing card that would complete a page. The Larry Walker card did just that. I like this page in particular because it's one of the only ones where I think I have all of the original cards pictured (though I'm a bit iffy on whether or not I actually have the Ripken).

Thanks, Tom! This was a nice surprise to highlight a day that was otherwise filled with futility and frustration.

May Group Break: Team #3 - Baltimore Orioles

With the O's, we get back on track. This is what a team's haul should look like.

Team: Baltimore Orioles
Buyer: Kevin

2014 Topps Base Cards
Four times the Gausman.

2013 Topps All-Star Stitches Chris Davis
Event-Worn Workout Jersey. At least you can be pretty sure it came from that.

2013 Topps All-Star Stitches J.J. Hardy
That's 2 out of 5 Orioles who were on the roster. All you need now is Machado, Jones, and Tillman.

2013 Gypsy Queen Cal Ripken, Jr. Mini

2014 Topps Jonathan Schoop Green Border Parallel
Not sure where this falls in the parallel hierarchy, but it's certainly not as nice as yellow. Green and orange simply don't work together.

2012 Bowman Platinum Manny Machado
Looks like a rafractor, but this set doesn't indicate on the back.

2013 Manny Machado 1971 Mini
More Manny means more iron. No, wait, that's beef hearts, not Manny. My mistake.

2012 Bowman Platinum Dylan Bundy

2013 Topps Making Their Mark Kevin Gausman

See, much better. Most of the other team lots looks like this. Maybe not two jerseys, but just more stuff.

EXTRAS

The stack of cards I grabbed had only Oriole card in it. Well, 1/3 of an Oriole card. Here's a 2001 Topps insert called Progression, with Jim Palmer, Kevin Brown, and Kurt Ainsworth. No one has claimed the Dodgers or Giants, so this goes to Kevin free and clear. (By the way, you can still claim either of these teams. Go for it!)
